My daily Creative Practice

Each morning, I try to wake up early. Before the house is stirring with activity. I sit at the kitchen table and I take my paints out and then my playtime starts. It wasn’t always this way.

For a while, when I thought of making art, I only thought of what I would sell and not what I wanted to explore. Now, instead of pushing for a finished piece, I experiment in my sketchbook and do lots of things that aren’t necessarily in my “style”

So, in line with my penchant for inspiration for artistic shiny object syndrome, I decided to post my sketchbook wanderings here. I thought the theme, “Create/Destroy” was appropriate for what I find myself doing. Starting new things and trashing old things and sometimes blending the two.

So, you can expect that the work you see here will be all over the place and maybe not seem to come from one single person. I’m okay with that. Also, I do not plan to post in a linear fashion, meaning “day 1, day 2, etc.” Because I know my brain will immediately reject such logical order. Rather, I will just post work that I personally like that I have done in my sketchbook. I will try to provide a date or something to the effect of “circa 2017”.

My hope is that this ongoing project will be encourage those other “scattered artists” to keep creating and keep me putting my work out there without subjecting it to constant scrutiny as to whether or not it is viable to sell. There is no worry about that in a sketchbook. I hope you are inspired enough to create your own sketchbook project.
